Tim Smith, PhD Tim Smith, Principal of Wiglaf LLC, has worked in science and technology for over 14 years, the past six of which in the sales and marketing of business products. Currently he is serving Wiglaf and our clients in two capacities, as a business researcher and consultant. As a business researcher, Dr. Smith investigates small and medium sized businesses in industrial markets to uncover best practices in sales and marketing. The results of his business research has produced over 50 articles to date published in the Wiglaf Journal and a number of other business and technology newsletters reaching audiences of over 80,000 worldwide. As a lead business consultant, Dr. Smith helps small and medium sized business to improve their sales and marketing performance. He has a strongly analytical approach to managing sales and marketing that is customized for small and medium sized businesses. Using his research, experience, and academic training as a foundation, he provides business executives with consulting services in both an advisory capacity and leading project teams to achieve strategic and tactical business objectives. While Dr. Smith began career as a scientific researcher and professor, six years ago he elected to concentrate on the Sales and Marketing of industrial products. Driving this change of focus was an interest to help close the gap between the creation of technological advances and their implementation in business. Towards this end, he has been a business development manager, technology market analyst, chief marketing officer, and a sales and marketing consultant. Some of his past roles include Chief Marketing Officer of ISB Development, a software subsidiary of Nonolet in Novosibirsk, Russia, and a Business Development Manager of SPL WorldGroup, a software product and consulting firm. He has also been a scientific researcher at the University of Chicago and Notre Dame University as well as a professor at Calumet College of St. Joseph. In his scientific research, Dr. Smith applied quantum mechanics and thermodynamics to improve the understanding of nanotechnology, semiconductor physics, femptosecond spectroscopy, and optimal control. Tim Smith earned a MBA with High Honors in Strategy and Marketing from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business in 2001. In 1995, he earned a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Chicago. He holds a BS in Chemistry and Physics from Southern Methodist University as well as a BA in Mathematics from Southern Methodist University.
