James W. Wilson

Jim Wilson, founder of Claremont Strategy Center, has eighteen years of consulting experience. Jim has helped clients to design and implement innovative business and marketing strategies in a variety of industries with recent emphasis on financial services and information technology. Jim’s clients include companies such as Johnson Controls, Monsanto, Nationwide Financial, Pitney Bowes, Prudential Insurance, Sun Microsystems, Verizon, and Xerox. In addition to assisting these leading companies, he has worked with a variety of small and medium-sized businesses to facilitate acquisition of capital and to enable financial restructuring. Jim has also consulted to public sector organizations including the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works and various educational institutions.

Jim’s approach to strategy development and business planning has evolved through experience with both national and boutique consulting firms. He worked with C-Change, Inc., a strategic change management consultancy, and with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, formerly Gemini Consulting, in supporting large business growth initiatives through customer-centric strategy development and implementation. He began his consulting career with The Richmark Group, a Chicago-based consulting firm specializing in market opportunity analysis and strategy development. Prior to his work in management consulting, Jim worked for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency where he held several positions including program analysis manager in the Office of Toxic Substances.

Jim has developed proven methods and tools in the area of business strategy development and implementation and enjoys educating clients and other consultants in these best practices. He was the practice leader at C-Change for customer-focused strategy and distribution channel alignment. Jim developed and delivered a Gemini University course in customer-focused growth strategy and has been a guest lecturer for masters degree courses in business and public administration.

Jim received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and holds a Master of Public Administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago. He received his undergraduate degree in Economics at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Jim enjoys running, skiing, mountain biking, golf, outings to the beach and desert, and playing the bassoon.
